about us Until recently, items such as scrap vehicles, fridges and freezers and other domestic items of a metal content have been shredded and disposed of as scrap for re-melting and any resultant unusable waste has been delivered to land fill sites. Ultimately, it is desirable to reduce the amount of this waste and to re-use more of this by-product through a combination of developing markets to consume more and to encourage manufacturers to improve the recycling content of their products.
These are the objectives of the new European regulations being introduced. Whilst the objectives are laudable, the scope of the legislation and the speed with which it is to be introduced and managed practically, calls for a measured and financially calculated response from the metals recycling sector. Within this business sector there are a number of independent companies with large investments in plant, equipment, stock and land and buildings ready to meet the challenges posed by the new legislation. In order to meet these challenges speedily and efficiently, these independent shredder operators formed UK Shredders to act as a negotiating body on their behalf.
Recent initiatives have included the development of Cartakeback.com Limited, a company which was formed specifically to handle the end of life vehicle directive in its entirety. For further information see our Projects page.
